Devon Malloy

This year the recipient is Devon Malloy, a senior at PV, this past winter she was originally diagnosed with Spontaneous Pneumothorax which is congenital blebs, a disorder of the lung that causes weak spots in the lung lining which allowed air to leak into the chest wall.  Devon went through 2 surgeries, multiple chest tubes and her lung collapsing twice before her true diagnosis would be identified.  As a precautionary measure, the doctor’s biopsied tissue removed during the 2nd surgery.  During recovery, she started to resume her senior activities of planning for her senior prom, finals and college in late August and living the life of a senior in high school.  The results of the biopsy from the 2nd surgery showed cancer cells in her lung tissue.  Her true diagnosis was then identified as Pleural Pulmonary Synovial Sarcoma.  This is a rare soft tissue cancer that appeared in the lining of the right lung.  Devon is currently undergoing radiation treatment which will last through most of the summer, but she forever thanks God for the gift of strength and courage as she intends to live life to its fullest!  To read more about her courageous journey, you may visit devonmalloy.com.
