Danielle DeLarso was diagnosed with Stage 4 Clear Cell Sarcoma in June of 2010 at 16 years old. Danielle was an Honor Roll Student at PVHS and a recognized talented athlete. Danielle was excited for her senior year and very proud to be a part of PV’s Class of 2012. In Danielle’s honor, a group from our local youth sports organizations decided to hold an event that would generate not only money to be distributed to local families in need, but would bring our community together for a common cause.

This year’s recipient is Jameson Hassis a 6 year old boy. At the age of one he was diagnosed with Severe Hemophilia A, this is a bleeding disorder that causes the body to lack a clotting protein called factor VIII. If left untreated it can lead to permanent joint damage. Treatment is lifelong, with no cure and therefore the most expensive condition in the world only affecting around 20,000 people worldwide. Treatment is given intravenously, so Jameson had a port implanted in the center of his chest, however this caused him to develop an inhibitor within his blood meaning he now needed daily injections. Jameson is under care at CHOP and is on a new subcutaneous injection called Hemlibra. This new medication will make life a little easier, he will have the port removed this summer. He is a very active boy, he enjoys playing baseball for PV, swimming, riding bike and playing outside and understands the risks of cuts and contusions not clotting. There are seminars throughout the country to help educate families effected by Hemophilia. The family has attended 2 so far in St. Louis and San Diego. They will be travelling to Boston in August.
